HOUSE SPEAKER PELOSI NAMES REP. WEXLER TO FINANCIAL SERVICES COMMITTEE

Rep. Robert Wexler, D-Fla. (19th CD), issued the following press release:

Rep. Robert Wexler has been named by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to the coveted House Financial Services Committee, which has jurisdiction over all of the nation's housing and financial services sectors including banking, insurance, real estate, public and assisted housing and securities.

Wexler will immediately use his role on Financial Services to address the insurance crisis occurring in Florida. This week Wexler spoke to Barney Frank (D-MA), Chairman of the Financial Services Committee, and to Florida Governor Charlie Crist to plan a meeting in Washington, D.C. with Crist, Frank, and other members of the Florida Congressional delegation in order to promote federal legislation that will help alleviate the insurance crisis that is occurring in Florida and other areas of the country.

"The Florida legislature has finally acted, and an aggressive federal response is now needed" said Wexler on Thursday. "Floridians need relief from unfair and exorbitant insurance rates, and I will use my new role on Financial Services to ensure that swift action is taken by Congress."

Wexler has been granted a waiver by the Democratic leadership in Congress to join the Financial Services Committee without relinquishing his existing membership as a senior member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs and the Judiciary Committee. Wexler, already named Chairman of the Europe Subcommittee, was also named this week to the Subcommittee on Middle East and South Asia on Foreign Affairs and the Courts, the Internet and Intellectual Property on Judiciary.Contact: Lale Mamaux, 202/225-3001.
